Looking Down (2010)
Looking down on the world,
the only book I’d like to read,
but the pages remain hidden.
The plastic cover an invisible hurdle,
a protection designed exclusively for me?
The transparency of the blanket taunting,
these childlike fingers cannot tear her.
So I wonder; will she forever remain,
a mystery?
God is who I want to be!
If God can’t tear off the plastic then what is he,
but the author unable to read his own book?
The creator with amnesia, who forgot the key!
So I will gather all the knowledge in the world,
all the different views, conflicting as they may be,
and when I take them all and add them up,
then I will be, God’s human emissary!
But even then, the plastic cover will remain.
My hands, at best, able to wrinkle it.
The time will never come
that people look up and say;
That is where he stands, he who knows it all!
At best, if I try real hard,
then maybe, just maybe, they will say;
This is where he once stood, a great mind,
Looking down.
